What EY can do for you
Today is a unique moment for providers and payers, which often have one foot grounded in the past holding them back from striding into the future. For payers, digital offers a way to reimagine how they engage with members, inform prices and manage costs. For providers, technology forms the foundation for new methods of care, improving patient outcomes, stabilizing financial performance and updating operating models.
Drawing upon the multifaceted yet sector-specific skills from across our global organization, EY Health Technology Services can empower all companies in the sector to reframe today’s challenges into tomorrow’s opportunities through the power of digital and hands-on change management — from those with a proven track record of success. These services address how to:
- Rapidly evolve virtual care models at a time when confusion and missed opportunities remain the norm for too many
- Boost efficient operations and integration, a need that is particularly acute after the rupture of the pandemic
- Evolve foundational technology capabilities to support requirements for data interoperability across payers and providers while smoothing out implementation and change management needs
- Address changing regulatory requirements and mandates and also gain strategic value-adds from the associated transformation
Can you build tomorrow’s health ecosystem with yesterday’s tools and thinking? The EY suite of technology services, backed by skilled professionals across a wide spectrum of disciplines, helps you bridge the gap between your current state and a better future state, rapidly and effectively — saving you time, money and effort, and ultimately boosting quality of care.

EY EHR to the Cloud
Moving electronic health records (EHR) and the associated application landscape to the cloud is an opportunity to rationalize your infrastructure and applications portfolio, reduce costs, increase performance and agility, drive innovation, and enhance security and business continuity capabilities. But the risks and complexity are commensurate: EHR ecosystems are enormous in size (not only the core EHR suite, but the hundreds of applications that complement it and the thousands of medical devices integrated to it), and they are quite literally the hospitals’ operating platform.
EY EHR to the Cloud offers the full package in making this transition efficiently and securely. EY teams have extensive experience in enterprise cloud migrations across sectors. We’ve taken lessons learned and combined them with a health care focus specifically centered around EHR. This robust, end-to-end migration roadmap executes the shift from an EHR core system to an economical, flexible and adaptable cloud-based infrastructure. It includes:
- A decision framework for managers to select the cloud environment that best suits their needs
- A defined transition methodology that covers data migration, cloud enablement, process change management and user acceptance testing, for example
- Implementation services around key EHR platforms (such as Epic and Cerner)
- Services for non-core application refactor and migration
- Interoperability support, data semantics mapping and connectivity to EHRs
EY Hospital ERP Refresh
With the worst of the COVID-19 emergency hopefully fading into the rearview mirror, hospital management teams should now have the bandwidth and focus to re-engage on an important topic crucial to their future: their enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms. Most large hospital systems in the US are running on ERP platforms that are 20 years old or more — not suited for a world in which telemedicine has grown dramatically more in demand and supply chains more dynamic, to pick just two currently top-of-mind examples.
To capitalize on trends and mitigate risks, hospitals need to upgrade their ERPs to more cloud-enabled models that support modern capabilities, also including complex reimbursement payment models. EY Hospital ERP Refresh professionals help hospitals design and overhaul their aging platforms to provide the new digital architecture that underpins hospital operations management. In doing so, we rely on our alliance partners such as SAP and decades of experience in ERP implementations, in health care and many other industries. Key elements of our approach based on extensive lessons learned include:
- A management decision framework for selecting a next-generation ERP
- Financial and material process redesign to support virtual care settings
- An established transition methodology, covering data migration, cloud enablement, process change management and user acceptance testing
- Implementation services around key ERP platforms (such as Oracle, Infor, SAP and Workday)
- Key application programming interfaces to back-end supply chain systems
EY Provider Interoperability
Recent government regulations (including data interoperability, price transparency and provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act) are prompting a need for greater information-sharing across the health value chain. Noncompliance can lead to stiff fines and requires that patient health data, for example, be made accessible — yet also secure and private.
Meeting this balance of requirements demands a mix of digital transformation and change management, combined with a health care mindset and an understanding of the rules. EY Provider Interoperability fulfills those needs, drawing from a global network of experienced tech implementation professionals and sector-focused leaders — within a proven structure for success. It covers data ingestion, integration and sharing considerations, including a suite of controls integrated with internal audit or enterprise risk management. New processes and workflow changes drive compliance with regulations — and develop opportunities for additional business value. Components include:
- A decision framework for management on how to design interoperability, as well as how to provision and present pricing data
- A framework for capturing pricing data analytics and a pricing update engine available via software-as-a-service
- Implementation services around key electronic health record platforms (such as Epic and Cerner) to support interoperability requirements
- Interoperability support, data semantics mapping and connectivity to electronic health records for key use cases (such as prior authorization)
