In our Actuarial team, you’ll assist EY clients across Australia and New Zealand make informed decisions, quantify risks, gain data- driven insights and improve their performance while you build your career.

 

What is Actuarial?

You’ll play a significant role in assisting EY clients across Australia and New Zealand, make informed decisions in a transformative age, quantify risks, gain data-driven insights, and improve their performance.

Our clients are predominantly from the financial services and government sectors, with problems that are driven by regulatory change, ongoing economic uncertainty, technology-driven turbulence, demographic trends and increasing consumer expectations. As part of Actuarial Services, you’ll work with a range of professionals from diverse competencies and experiences to tackle these problems.

Using your critical thinking and analytical skills, you’ll help work on a wide range of client engagements and be an active contributor to multi-disciplinary teams. Working in a dynamic environment, you’ll help deliver pragmatic commercial, strategic and quantitative solutions to EY clients to help build a better working world.

 
 

What could you be doing?

As part of these teams, you might:

  • Design and price products, taking into consideration market developments, client objectives, current product profitability and marketing issues
  • Assist insurers with an assessment of their capital stability under various stress scenarios
  • Value exotic derivatives using stochastic modelling
  • Perform due diligence, business valuation, and assist with mergers and acquisitions
  • Value liabilities for insurance companies, regulators, or other businesses under a range of circumstances
  • Transform and leverage complex datasets to provide evidence-based insights to clients, enabling the creation of bespoke models to project future outcomes and inform strategic decision making
  • Support the government in developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based policies
  • Work with professionals from other EY service lines to improve the analytical capabilities of clients so that they can better support their communities

What will you bring to the team?

  • Critical thinking with a passion for working across a range of projects such as policy and strategic advice, capital and risk management, pricing, liability valuation or Appointed Actuary work
  • The ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and enjoy working with dynamic, multi-disciplinary teams
  • Resilience and curiosity to learn and apply new skills in an ever-changing business world
  • The ability to build trusted relationships both internally across the organisation and externally with clients

Your career journey in Actuarial

As a graduate, you’ll be part of our 12-month graduate development program that has been developed for graduates in all service lines, and is focused on connection, learning and celebration.

The program will provide you with the opportunity to network with your peers from other service lines and geographies. Running in parallel to your technical learning, you will develop leadership skills to become a successful graduate, and as you grow as a transformative leader.

As a vacationer, after our company induction, you’ll start developing an understanding of how our Actuarial teams work and will be ready to work alongside teams on real client projects. You’ll meet other new vacationers from your office.

Your buddy and your counsellor will help you learn your way around the organisation, set your goals and plan your development while you’re here. You'll be well looked after with ongoing learning throughout the Vacationer Program with sessions facilitated by our Learning and Development team, Campus Recruitment team and service line specific training. The Vacationer Program is a great way to gain valuable audit experience, skills and networks to start building your career.
