Mario leads Risk Consulting across Canada and is the Global Leader for the Financial Services Risk Consulting practice, which comprises 8,500 professionals, for risk technology, AI risk and applied innovation, which contribute to several global regulatory initiatives. Mario is also the co-author of several whitepapers covering the topics of AI fairness, explainability, privacy, digital assets and open banking.
Mario is the founding partner of EY’s Global Centre of Excellence for CRO Innovation and a leader in AI research projects on fairness and explainability with Microsoft research and the Vector Institute. With over 25 years of experience, he has led many advanced internal ratings-based (AIRB) programs for global and Canadian banks, providing guidance on restructuring portfolios, developing hedging strategies, and optimizing risk-return profiles.
He also has extensive experience in economic and risk due diligence, bank valuations for M&A transactions, and advising investors on sustainable business models. Mario has a proven track record in developing and validating qualitative and quantitative risk, rating, and capital markets models. He has also played a key role in leading ERM transformation projects for G-SIBs and D-SIBs.
