EY values diversity in the workplace and is committed to building a better working world for transgender and non-binary individuals. Gabbie Santos (he/him) is the Co-chair of EY's Transgender and Non-binary Community and talks more about his career journey and diverse perspectives as we celebrate International Transgender Day of Visibility.
Iwas was born and raised in the Philippines but lived in different countries over the last ten years, and joined the Technology Consulting team at EY in London at the start of 2022.
My transition journey has been intricately linked with my career path. When I was in university, I attended a networking conference for LGBTQ+ students to meet LGBTQ+ individuals working in the financial services sector. I was overwhelmed by the welcoming and accepting atmosphere of all identities and provided me with the courage to really embrace my transgender identity.
The networking conference led to an internship at a large asset manager, which was a great opportunity for me to experience the work and workplace environment as a transgender employee. I relied on the LGBTQ+ employee network for support and for a sense of community to successfully navigate my time there.
I decided to join EY as its purpose of building a better working world resonates with my career goal to help the financial services industry navigate change and disruption. EY’s global network offers opportunities to work with exceptional people across a wide range of markets and to be inspired by the power of bringing diverse teams together. Moreover, EY’s commitment to advancing Diversity Equity & Inclusiveness (DE&I) has the potential to drive positive change for so many individuals, both in our firm and through our clients.
