EY was instrumental in the Brønnøysund Register Centre and the Norwegian Tax administration becoming the first Norwegian public offices testing information services in the virtual world of Decentraland!

- We have worked closely with the Brønnøysund Register Centre and the Tax Administration to ensure that they reach the relevant and, in particular, the youngest users, and assist with the correct reporting of new types of services, companies and incomes such as cryptocurrency. It has been especially important to meet the younger generations where they are, which is why EY also has established our own office in the metaverse, says Magnus Jones, Nordic blockchain and innovation manager at EY Tax & Law.

EY has assisted throughout the entire process, from start-up to "moving in" to Decentraland, when the Brønnøysund Register Centre now showcases the new virtual office during the Nokia conference in Trondheim on 26 October.

- We are very satisfied with the collaboration - and the establishment of a virtual office in the metaverse. There, you will get to know public services in a new way, says Kristine Aasen, director of communications in the Brønnøysund Register Centre.

Inform, communicate and explore virtually

In the virtual office in Decentraland, you will find information on crypto reporting from the Tax Administration and on "how to start a business" from the Brønnøysund Register Centre.

- Decentraland is a virtual world built on the Ethereum blockchain, especially made for those who want to create content, play, sell, build land and real estate. It is also a place where you can communicate and explore. We believe the metaverse is a channel where we have to be present, says Andreas Hamnes, business developer in the Brønnøysund Register Centre.

A new rapidly evolving market

EY has "hands-on" experience with the relatively new market and believes there will be an increasing need for services related to the metaverse moving forward.

- It is still new and demanding for the vast majority of people to work with metaverse and virtual offices. Both from a technical, market and legal perspective. However, what we see as the biggest challenges for businesses, is interpreting the regulatory, tax and legal regulations surrounding the metaverse, which can be very complex. Therefore, EY is very positive to Norwegian authorities now helping to bring clarity to the market by meeting users with information and dialogue in the virtual world, Jones concludes.
