Ooi Lay Pheng

Ooi Lay Pheng is the CEO of Berjayapak Sdn Bhd (Berjayapak). Since leading the company in 2015, Lay Pheng has transformed Berjayapak from a traditional family business supplying wood pallets into an integrated industrial packaging solutions company, serving multinational corporations in Malaysia and overseas.

Prior to joining Berjayapak, she spent 10 years studying and working in the USA; and another decade working in the healthcare industry and a non-profit organization in Kuala Lumpur.

Over the past 6 years in Berjayapak, she has introduced more efficient manufacturing processes and technology such as automation and mechanization, and explored alternative, sustainable resources with reputable partners to raise product quality and value.

Never afraid to forge new paths, she has set about increasing the company’s global footprint by rapidly establishing locations across Malaysia and overseas in the last three years, to serve multinational customers; with more locations in the works.

Establishing multiple locations close to customers  has resulted in cost- competitiveness and enhanced delivery efficiency. Consequently, Berjayapak is set to engineer more opportunities by implementing circular economy principles for further sustainable growth.

To meet rapidly evolving business needs, she encourages her team to incorporate and deploy industry best practices garnered from international industry counterparts.

In addition to growing businesses, she has a heart for youth. She finds time mentoring the young in her community as she believes strongly that significant changes are brought about through the acquiring of good working skills. Her desire to care for, develop and nurture others, envisioning their possibilities, whether it is for her team or the youth in the community, is always at the forefront of her mind.
