Hugh is a Partner in our Cybersecurity team within our Technology Consulting practice, having joined EY in 2003 from a pan-European electronic payments company.
Hugh specialises in cybersecurity and has worked for international clients across several industries, notably in financial services, as leader for our Dublin-based cyber centre of excellence.
Hugh has experience of cyber security strategy development, security improvement programme implementation and technical security risk management. Hugh is used to translating complex issues into simple, business language that is readily understandable by boards and executive teams.
BSc in Physics from University College Cork and PhD in Computational Plasma Physics with Max Planck Institute Munich.

“I support organisations fighting the evil of cyber crime by helping them understand cyber threats, protect their customer information and prevent the flow of funds and data to cyber criminals.
I help businesses to prepare for cyber attacks through cyber crisis exercises, which use immersive scenarios for board and executive teams to safely experience how a serious cyber attack could affect their business and build the right decision-making structures to manage the situation effectively.
I also help organisations measure their cybersecurity capability maturity and benchmark it against industry peers, so they can align precious resources to the areas of greatest business need.
Finally I help organisations conduct so-called ‘red team’ exercises, where our ethical hacking teams use the tools, tactics and procedures of real-life cybercriminals to identify exploitable weaknesses that present risk to the business and recommend how to fix them.”
