Disruptive and evolving cyberattacks over the past year have been a key challenge for security leaders. The situation for Irish CISOs is exacerbated as Ireland is perceived as being less mature and, therefore, presenting more opportunity for vulnerabilities to be exploited by cyber criminals than some other markets. The number and the severity of the attacks have been higher in Ireland, but the Irish CISOs say they understand new strategies used by threat actors.

Summary

Security leaders in Ireland are more likely to feel overwhelmed by the burden of compliance than their global peers. Prioritisation of risk-based and regulatory-focussed security enhancement initiatives will continue to be a challenge for CISOs already constrained by the budgetary impacts of COVID-19.
