Choosing your career route

When submitting your application form, you may submit a preference for the types of clients you would like to work with during your graduate programme, if you wish. We have two areas of our business which focus on different clients and industries. 

Non-Financial Services Clients: Industrial, Commercial & Technology Clients including Automotive & Transportation, Government & Public Sector, Health & Life Sciences, Mining & Metals, Oil & Gas, Power & Utilities, Real Estate, Hospitality & Construction, Technology, Telecommunications, Media & Entertainment.

Financial Services (FS) Financial Services clients: Asset Management, Banking and Insurance, Investment Services, Financial Services Industry, Foreign Exchange.

No preference: If you are open to any client group or industry, then that is no problem! Please select "no preference" when submitting your graduate application. 

Selecting a preferred team: If you have an interest in a specific sub-team within Tax, please read on below to discover the areas you can join. If you spot a team that peaks your interest, please submit your preference via your graduate application. This is not mandatory, and you are more than welcome to submit your application without a team preference if you wish.

Our Tax Graduate Programmes: 

Corporate Tax

Our corporate tax team encompasses a number of different areas such as International Tax Services (ITS), Global Compliance Reporting (GCR) and Domestic Tax Advisory .   Our tax professionals help many of the world’s largest multinational companies meet complex demands for tax planning, tax policy and controversy management, tax reporting and compliance, working across all sectors including Technology, Life Sciences and Retail.  It is an exciting team focused on advising on the ever changing national and international tax laws and the adoption of technology to help improve the delivery of tax offerings to clients.

Indirect Tax (VAT)

In a single day you can move from advising Irish colleagues on the VAT issues pertaining to property sales, to dealing with Revenue on a significant VAT refund application or even co-ordinating Indirect Tax analysis from many countries of which you may have never been to.

Private Client Services

Working with high net worth individuals and their families advising them on all aspects of their tax affairs including personal tax planning, residency, estate and succession planning and asset protection. We also advise privately owned companies including family business on a number of matters including M&A, transition of shares to next generation, re-organisations, governance structures etc.

Transfer Pricing

In Transfer Pricing service line, we assist companies with appropriately pricing and documenting their intercompany transactions to comply with various countries‘ rules and legislation which is imperative in managing tax risk. We do this by understanding their business (i.e. function performed, assets employed and risk assumed by each associated company in a related party transaction) through functional interview of the stakeholders and provide advisory, compliance support and litigation support in relation to their intercompany transaction pricing across various jurisdiction.

Technology and Transformation

Due to the pace of regulatory change, increasing demands for transparency, expanding digital tax administrations with escalating reporting requirements and regulations, it is essential that our clients’ tax functions operate in the most effective and efficient manner possible.

In Tax Technology & Transformation, we help clients to assess their tax function to get a better understanding of their current processes and identify areas for improvement. We also help them to determine how well they are connected to the evolving tax ecosystem. To do this, we utilise our deep knowledge of industry trends, third-party vendor capabilities and tax technology and work with our clients to develop solutions ranging from the improvement of a single process to the creation of a technology road map for building an intelligent tax function.

Real Estate Services

The EY Real Estate Tax Team provides specialist due diligence and structuring advisory services on the acquisition, development, financing, holding and disposal of real estate in Ireland. Our tax compliance services cover all tax heads relevant to the real estate sector.

People Advisory Services (PAS)

Our People Advisory Services (PAS) practice provides bespoke personal tax consulting advice and tax compliance services, in addition to advising individuals and employers on their work permit and cross border immigration obligations. Our PAS tax service covers all aspects of personal taxation, employment tax, self-employed individuals, social security, share/equity compensation and executive remuneration. We also assist employers in designing Mobility Policies to ensure regulatory compliance and talent development. We are a globally integrated practice and operate across in excess of 150 jurisdictions.

Transaction Tax

In Transaction Tax, we work on all of the tax aspects associated with Mergers & Acquisitions across a diverse range of sectors (e.g., technology, renewable energy, life sciences, etc.). Working closely with both other Transaction Tax team members and tax subject matter specialists from across the organisation, transaction tax involves:

  • Performing tax due diligence procedures for our clients,
  • Providing assistance to our clients in respect of both pre and post-acquisition structuring and integration,
  • Working closely with our colleagues in Strategies and Transactions to deliver a comprehensive service offering and value to our clients,
  • Liaising with clients and their legal advisors to achieve the desired commercial outcome in a tax efficient manner while also managing tax risk through the contractual process,
  • Review of financial models from an Irish tax perspective to assist our clients in evaluating the commercial opportunity available,
  • Assisting in the provision of tax advice to clients on a range of advisory projects.

Global Compliance Reporting (GCR)

The Global Compliance Reporting (GCR) team is an exciting team focused on complying with the ever changing national and international tax laws and the adoption of technology to help improve tax reporting processes. The GCR team focus on various tasks from tax filings, tax payments and tax reporting to ad hoc tax advice. The team work with domestic companies and companies in multi-national groups with an Irish tax reporting obligation across all sectors including Technology, Life Sciences and Retail. 

Research and Development (R&D)

The EY quantitative services group help businesses to access funding, grants, and incentives for their innovation, sustainability initiatives, and capital investments to achieve their innovation, sustainability and growth ambitions, thereby unlocking long-term value for our clients. The quantitative services team have a wide variety of skill sets from IT, Engineering and Life Science to Tax and Accounting.

  • Direct Route

    If you are interested in pursuing an internationally recognised accounting qualification in a global firm like EY, then apply today to the EY Tax Graduate programme. 

    Who can apply?

    Students from all degrees and disciplines are eligible to apply, and remember, this route is not only for those who have studied accounting or finance!

    What professional training routes are available to graduates?

    By joining our Tax team, you will have the opportunity to pursue both the ACA & AITI Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) exams. This professional qualification route will provide you with world-class exam support, paid study leave and benefits provided to help you succeed.

    You also have the option to pursue the AITI Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) exams only, if you wish. 

    ACA & AITI Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) - Direct Entry Route:

    By choosing the ACA & AITI Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) direct entry route, you will first be enrolled with Chartered Accountants Ireland and sit 3 sets of exams over a 3.5 training year period with EY:

    • CAP1 
    • CAP2 
    • FAE 

    Following this, you will go on to complete your AITI Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) via the Irish Tax Institute for year 4 and 5 of your training contract with EY. The AITI Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification is the gold standard in tax and the international mark of excellence in tax advice. 

    • Part 2
    • Part 3

    There are no prior exemptions required for this route, however if your Bachelors or Masters degree has provided you with full CAP1 and CAP2 exemptions, your initial ACA route will be shortened from 3.5 to 3 years. 

    Training benefits include:

    • EY provides graduates with market-leading paid study leave in excess of the recommended study leave by the Professional Institutes in Ireland. 
    • EY will pay for all associated costs in relation to tuition and exam entry fees for first attempt exams, admission to membership and subscription fees. 
    • You will be eligible for exam bonuses for your 1st attempt of exam passes/placings.
    • EY provides graduates with a range of exam support sessions, through our dedicated learning teams to help you succeed:
      • Non-technical exam support sessions: These sessions focus on study leave preparation tips, study plans and exam preparation techniques to ensure you are ready for your next exam.
      • EY Ed Team: A dedicated internal team who are there to support you through your professional qualifications.
      • Faculty EY: Extra exam support sessions hosted by experienced and recommended lecturers, to assist all EY ACA and CTA students with their upcoming exams.

    You will also have access to other EY supports such as peer channels and Exam Champions to help you along the way.

    • EY Badges: All EY employees have access to additional learning programmes, allowing our people to earn digital credentials in future focused skills.
    • Udemy access: An online learning platform with a vast offering of engaging open online courses.
  • Sponsored Masters in Accounting Route

    • Masters - Full Sponsorship

      Students who are successful in their application to the EY Graduate Programme in Tax are eligible to recieve sponsorship to complete an accredited Masters in Accounting before joining the firm. 

      If you are a final year undergraduate student and thinking of pursuing a Masters in Accounting before moving on to a graduate programme, then this route is for you. Apply to EY today and if successful, we will support you in returning to university for an additional year, where you can achieve your CAP1 and CAP2 exemptions. 

      To avail of this entry route, your chosen Masters in Accounting must be recognised and accredited by Chartered Accountants Ireland, and you must achieve full CAP1 and CAP2 exemptions before you join the firm. 

      EY Masters Sponsorship includes:

      • €7,600 towards your course fees
      • a bursary of €2,500
      • book allowance of up to €500

       

    • Masters - Part Sponsorship

      Like our full-sponsorship route, students who are actively completing an accredited Masters in Accounting at the time of their Graduate interview are eligible to apply for part-sponsorship towards their Masters course. 

      If you are a final year Masters in Accounting student and are on track to achieve your full CAP1 and CAP2 exemptions, then this route is for you.

      To avail of this entry route, your Masters in Accounting must be recognised and accredited by Chartered Accountants Ireland, and you must have achieved full CAP1 and CAP2 exemptions before you join the firm. 

      EY Part-Sponsorship includes:

      • €3,500 towards your course fees
      • a bursary of €2,500
      • book allowance of up to €500

       

  • Sponsored Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting (PDA) Route

    • Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting - Full Sponsorship

      Students who are successful in their application to the EY Graduate Programme in Tax are eligible to receive sponsorship to complete an accredited Masters in Accounting before joining the firm. 

      If you are a final year undergraduate student and are thinking of pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting before moving on to a graduate programme, then this route is for you. Apply to EY today, and if successful, we will support you in returning to university for an additional year, where you will achieve your CAP1 exemptions. 

      To avail of this entry route, your chosen Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting must be recognised and accredited by Chartered Accountants Ireland, and you must achieve full CAP1 exemptions before you join the firm. 

      EY Postgraduate Diploma Sponsorship includes:

      • €7,600 towards your course fees
      • a bursary of €2,500
      • book allowance of up to €500

       

    • Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting - Part Sponsorship

      Like our full-sponsorship route, students who are actively completing an accredited Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting at the time of their Graduate interview are eligible to apply for part-sponsorship towards their postgraduate course. 

      ·       If you are currently completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting and are on track to achieve your full CAP1 exemptions, then this route is for you.

      ·       To avail of this entry route, your Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting must be recognised and accredited by Chartered Accountants Ireland, and you must have achieved full CAP1 exemptions before you join the firm. 

      EY Postgraduate Diploma Part-Sponsorship includes:

      • €3,500 towards the course fees
      • a bursary of €2,500 (taxable)
      • book allowance of up to €500
