Building and maintaining consumer confidence throughout the energy transition journey is a key factor to achieving decarbonization goals. Consumer action will drive between 40-70% of outcome of the energy transition, but fatigue is setting in, stalling confidence and stagnating progress. The EY Energy Consumer Confidence Index found that less than half of energy consumers in Asean are confident about the affordability, access and appeal of clean energy solutions.
Given that Southeast Asia is at a relatively early stage in its energy transition, we are in a unique position to learn from the experiences of countries that have progressed further in their energy transition journey and can choose to do some things differently to achieve net zero.
